Twenty Month Update.

Small Fry turned twenty months old yesterday -- and it completely slipped my mind. I could blame it on a busy season in the world of part-time lawyering or that my mind is elsewhere for Covenant Family Camp this weekend. But, I think the truth is this: as babyhood wanes, the monthly markers become less and less important. To the point they are no longer even noticed. Gulp. While I am enjoying and savoring these precious fun-filled days with our toddler Small Fry, I'm not ready for the two-year mark just yet; that's the age when the month is truly insignificant.

So, how about a day in the life of Small Fry to capture him at this age. On your twenty-month birthday, sweet boy, you woke up before 6 am. (We're in a not too fun and way too early wake up phase. But with you -- as I suppose all little ones -- each phase is so short lived it's a blip in the scheme of things.) Your older brother requested "fresh" pancakes for breakfast -- as in, he did not want me to heat up frozen, homemade pancakes, but instead wanted them right off the skillet. You devoured yours -- tearing them into bites and dipping them into syrup. We had a dance party in the kitchen and played Transformers (at your brother's request) before getting ready for your day. We dropped Fawn off at school and you and I headed to your Aunt Frances' house to drop off a baby stroller she wants to borrow. You demonstrated your boy traits by rubbing your hands all over my tires and getting quite messy. It required a wipe down. We tried to explain to you that there was a baby in Aunt Fran's belly and you said "bye bye baby" when we left. It was off to my office to pick up some work. I tried to show you off -- and you blew kisses and cuddled up to mama. Sweet, sweet thing. Your head fits perfectly on my shoulder and in the curve of my neck. Then it was off to Together Time at the library. You love, love, love this story time -- just like your older brother did. You paid attention well, shook your bean bags during the bean bag dance, played your instrument, were such a good helper cleaning up, and showed off your dance moves during the closing number. At the end of story time, you were eager to get your letter from Miss Nene; an "F" that you pretended was a gun and walked around saying "shoot dat". Lovely. The rest of the days was the grocery store, preschool pick-up for Fawn, an afternoon nap, and a trip to the toy store for Fawn to spend $20 that was burning a hole in his wallet.

Small Fry is still nursing three times a day, just like Fawn was at this age. It is a special, quiet time -- the only peace I get during the day with my toddler. Small Fry has the funniest words for nursing. When he wants to nurse he says "boob." (Fawn used a much more politically correct "mama milk".) And, when Small Fry is done on one side, he says "switch sides". It's pretty cute. Other than nursing, Small Fry can be a great eater or a terrible eater -- it just depends on the day. He is eating great at lunch at Mother's Day Out, but unless he's really hungry meal time can be a battle. He generally likes fruit and is starting to like meat and cheese.

Small Fry loves to play outside, loves to play trains, and loves to play anything with his big brother. Bath time is still a favorite -- as is Mickey Mouse. Small Fry's dancing will brighten anyone's day. And, his interactions with Fawn are priceless. Their thing is for Fawn to carry Small Fry around -- both giggling and loving every minute. Small Fry is really starting to look forward to books and reading time. Thank goodness! I have to admit that I need my children to be bookworms like me. I love to read and love to read to them.

Some of Small Fry's favorite words and best pronunciations:
Tack = Jack
Wowe Kide = Roll Tide
Booyah = for anything awesome
Ju Boc = juice box
Bubba or Bubby = Fawn
Mic Mouse Cwub = he wants to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
Cwibe too = he wants to climb into his car seat himself or climb from the backseat to the front seat himself
bean bag = he wants to go to story time at the library
Dine Roar = dinosaur
Gato = Gatorade
Pi'ates BooBoo = Pirate's Booty

Small Fry we love you more each day. Your personality is infectious -- you add the perfect blend of joy, fun and sweetness to our family.
